Ausangate Trekking
Start your Andean adventure

At 6:00 in the morning we will go to the community of Tinki located about 100 km south of Cusco, after 3 hours in our transportation and some stops to take some photos at the distance of the snowy Ausangate. We will arrive at the beginning of the road where part of our staff, including muleteers and horses, will be waiting for us ready to organize some of our luggage to take to the next camp. Once ready, we will begin the first part of our walk, which will be 9 kilometers on the first day, considered relatively easy, since we will not make any ascents that guarantee great physical effort. This first section is ideal to adapt to the altitude level. of the following days, in this section we will have the option to see up close many alpacas that live freely in their natural habitat, after approximately 4 hours of walking, we will arrive at Upis (4100 meters above sea level) where we will spend the first night very close to it. snowy.

Our second day will be demanding, after having a breakfast rich in protein to have energy for the climbs, we will make our first two-hour ascent to the first pass (Arapa 3750 meters above sea level). This first part is a progressive increase without much inclination. Once at the top of the road we will have an overview of all the geography that surrounds us and from there we will continue the trip between the flat and low parts to the Puca Cocha sector for an average of 2 hours where we will have lunch waiting for us and enjoying the side view of the Apu Ausangate. In the afternoon we will continue the walk for 2 hours and ascend to the second pass (Chillca Apacheta 4850 meters above sea level). This part will be much more physically demanding because it is a much steeper path, but when we reach the two passes, we will have a feeling of tranquility as we see ourselves surrounded by mountains and snow-capped mountains. After a brief rest, we will continue another 2 hours of walking until we reach to Our camp in Ausangate Cocha (4700 meters above sea level).

Our third day will be full of spectacular views, since we will climb again to the highest point of our entire crossing, the so-called Palomani Pass is the highest point where we will reach on our walk (5200 meters above sea level) and we will have the option of being close to the snowy Ausangate, this first climb will last 3 hours, once at the top we will have a view of both sides of the valley and from there you can see the path that we will descend for approximately 2 hours to the place of our lunch, and to end the afternoon we will continue for 1 more hour of walking to our camp site in Pampa Jampa where we will sleep with the view of the 3 snow-capped peaks.

For this day we have approximately 6 hours of walking, of which 2 hours we will ascend to the Jampa pass and walk through the snow, then we will descend to Paqchanta, a walk of approximately 4 hours. In the pass we will see the formation of some rivers due to the deglaciation of snow. Already in Paqchanta, after lunch, you can spend the afternoon in the thermal baths of the place to relax your muscles after the walk.

It is a 3 hour walk to the town of Tinki, a typical Andean town where you can explore before taking the bus to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m.
